Ce s-a întâmplat
On 28 October, Ruslan Kravchenko, Ukraine's former prosecutor general, published a statement in Telegram saying that in September he learned a group had been sent to Austria after him to carry out unlawful violent actions against him. He claimed that the leaders of Nabu and Sap asked for the group to be sent, that the instructions came from the Office of the President, and that he does not have reliable information about who issued the criminal order. He said no evidence in his statement supported the accusations.
Kravchenko also claimed that two GUR servicemen from the «Artan» unit were detained in Austria, that one had previously worked in Nabu's external surveillance unit, and that unit commander Viktor Torkotyuk was in Austria at the time of their detention. He added that Torkotyuk had allegedly been promised a position for taking part in the group, without specifying which position or where. Austrian authorities did not identify the two other detained Ukrainian nationals and provided no evidence supporting Kravchenko's claims about their affiliation with GUR or Nabu.
Kravchenko also referenced journalist Mykhailo Tkach and camera operator Yaroslav Bondarenko, detained in Vienna on 8 October while working on an editorial assignment connected to the search for him. Both were released the next day, and the Vienna prosecutor's office said they had no connection to the Ukrainians previously detained on espionage suspicion. Bondarenko said he was injured during the arrest.
Cum prezintă evenimentul sursele ucrainene
Ukrainian media focused on Kravchenko's social-media allegations, his failure to explain why he remained abroad, the responses of the institutions he accused, and the context of the «Carthage» operation. Substantial attention was given to Nabu, Sap, the Office of the President and military intelligence personnel, alongside the absence of evidence supplied by Kravchenko and the official denial by Nabu and Sap.
Unde diferă relatările
Kravchenko said the group's deployment was requested by the leaders of Nabu and Sap and that orders came from the Office of the President. Nabu and Sap denied any involvement and said Kravchenko's claims were untrue, characterizing his statement as an attempt to secure protection in his country of residence. Separately, Kravchenko identified two of those detained in Austria as active GUR intelligence personnel, while Austrian authorities did not identify them and offered no evidence supporting the claim.
Context
Kravchenko left Ukraine on the night of 14 September for a five-day assignment to Paris that was to include hearings under the Council of Europe on Ukrainian children; his name was not on the participant list. The assignment ended on 18 September, and he did not return to work or explain why he stayed abroad. On 15 September, the Verkhovna Rada backed his resignation with 317 votes and President Volodymyr Zelensky signed his dismissal as prosecutor general; he remained a prosecutor in the Office of the Prosecutor General. Anton Kovalsky became acting prosecutor general on 17 September. Earlier, Nabu and Sap had announced the «Carthage» operation over an alleged criminal organization that provided cover for fraudulent call centres.
